Sunrise Foster Care, a program of Sunrise Children's Services

Sunrise Children's Services is a non-profit agency that cares for children and youth who have fallen victim to abuse or neglect. Sunrise operates 10 residential treatment facilities and therapeutic foster care homes throughout the state of Kentucky, as well as a crisis stabilization unit in Danville and a youth support center in London. Through these programs, nearly 400 children are served each day. Adoption services and family counseling are also available.

All children need safe environments and caring adults to grow and thrive. Abuse and neglect can impede a child's development, including physical growth, behavioral and mental health, and brain function. Some children need only temporary placement while others may need long term placement or a family willing to consider adoption.

Who can become a foster parent?
You do not need a degree to become a foster parent. You don't have to be a stay-at-home mom or even have your own children. A good foster parent: cares about impacting the lives of troubled youth; is committed to the growth and development of children from a variety of backgrounds; is over age 21 and in good health; has transportation and a stable home environment where a child will feel cared for and safe; and is available to participate in Sunrise's pre-service training.

What training is required?
Training is provided free-of-charge by Sunrise. Sunrise Foster Care offers professional, Christian-based training where you will learn: how to navigate the complicated Child Welfare System; how to introduce your own family and children to therapeutic foster care; best practices in working with children from cultures and backgrounds different from your own; and more. We welcome transfers from the State and other agencies.

How will Sunrise help me?
Sunrise Foster Care is committed to produce and maintain strong, quality therapeutic foster homes. Through the professional training and ongoing support provided by our staff, our mission is to help families like yours grow to be confident and competent foster parents for the children and youth we serve. We provide 24/7 support to our families; long-term experienced staff members are always just a phone call away to provide assistance developing goals, planning for the child's treatment, to advocate for the child in the legal and educational systems, and to help deal with any problems that may arise. Transportation assistance, mileage reimbursement and daily care reimbursement are provided. Sunrise also provides respite care to ensure you have time for yourself and with your own family.
